Decades of experience have established our reputation as a dependable supplier of quality, organic mushrooms. We utilize state-of-the-art growing technology and practices in order to replicate the exact environment in which shiitake and oyster mushrooms grow and thrive. Comprised of 4 growing rooms with approximately 20,000 square feet of space, our farm produces approximately 25,000 pounds of organic shiitake mushrooms and 5,000 pounds of oyster mushrooms per week.
With distribution surpassing 1,300,000 pounds of mushrooms every year, Holburne Mushrooms has become the largest organic shiitake mushroom grower in Canada. We invite you to tour our state-of-the-art mushroom farming facilities.
Our F & R Mushroom Compost Facility produces our signature substrate. Years of experience as mushroom growers means we’ve perfected the compost formula mushrooms need to grow.
Our substrate begins with high-quality sawdust, water, and a mix of other beneficial growing mediums, like wheat bran and gypsum, that are compressed into poly bags. To prevent the colonization of contaminants and micro-organisms, our substrate then goes through a sterilization process. The substrate is then ready for inoculation.
Time and time again, our own farm and our customers rely on our substrate to provide the energy and nutrition mushrooms need to grow and fruit.
At Holburne Mushroom Farm, we’re committed to utilizing sustainable procedures to provide mushroom products that are not only good for your health but good for the earth as well.
As one of the most sustainable foods to produce, mushrooms are praised for their exceptionally small environmental footprint. They require fewer growing materials, less energy and water, and emit less carbon dioxide than other crops. Additionally, mushroom farms need much less space than other produce items; on ½ an acre of land, we grow 1,300,000 pounds of shiitake mushrooms every year.
Our farm is certified organic which means our mushrooms are grown without the use of chemical pesticides, antibiotics or synthetic chemicals. This results in the most naturally delicious and healthy mushrooms possible, all while preserving the environment. We also produce our own organic mushroom substrate by recycling materials that would have, otherwise, been discarded.
